Ignatieff vs. Volpe

In reviewing the coverage of the Afghan vote one thing jumped out at me. This move simultaneously lowered the prospects of Michael Ignatieff and raised those of Joe Volpe. If that is not a brilliant tactic I don't know what is.

The Star: Volpe suggested that Ignatieff would give the U.S. government more influence in Canadian foreign policy than is warranted.

It is a little sad, that that sort of argument should have traction…

Greg:

I agree with Chantal Hebert. Iggy is the NDP candidate of choice.

nomdenet:

I don’t think it’s a case of giving the US more say, it’s simply acknowledging the reality that a stealth bomber costing US $2.2 billion has more influence than a Sea King.

cb:

Volpe is not going to win the Liberal leadership. The best he can hope for is to be some sort of powerbroker. He is too closely identified with the Martinites.

If Ignatieff falters, Kennedy will win.

I am not sure Harper would relish Kennedy as an opponent. He’d be better off against His Ignaciousness on the hustings.

Dr. Strangelove:

While I can’t fault the Liberals for having a free vote, a least a majority should have voted for the mission. And the likes of our former PM, Cotler and Goodale being absent is a testament to the embarassment this party continues to heap on itself.

PGP:

The one thing that disturbs me about this post is that inference that Joe Volpe is going to benefit in some way.

The last thing this empty vesel and overblown ego deserves is affirmation of any kind.

Nothing would make me happier than a Volpe win. Let’s just say he is my dream candidate ;)
