I've seen enough

CTV in general had a plethora of articles on how weak the Liberals were regarding Kyoto committments. There is no way they could be accused of letting them off the hook. In my mind the group that can be accused of this is the Canadian public. It was clear that the Liberals were not going to meet targets and even in the midst of scandal Canadians elected them to a minority government in 2004.

As for Ms. Taber, it is not her job to be polite, it is her job to inform. Now whether a political gossip columnist is best equipped to handle this role is another matter entirely but I do not have a problem with her approach. I have a bigger problem with Craig Oliver not challenging Jack Layton on China and India. Mr. Oliver asked Mr. Layton about Minister saying that half the signatories are going to miss their targets.

"Rona Ambrose is not tellng the truth. Many of the countries that have signed on, most of them have made specific commitments are achieving those targets and China and India, who are the countries that are to come on board with targets after 2012 are very enthusiastic about the idea."

Isn't that the time for a well informed questioner to jump in. Let's look at the top emiiters.

1) Did not ratify treaty and emissions going up
2) EU: Will miss targets
3) China: No targets and emissions going up (to the point of eating up the targeted Kyoto gains, see and here)
4) Russia: yee haw, all you have to do is decrease your population by 100,00/month are your emissions can go down
5) Japan: Will miss targets
6) India: No targets and emissions going up

But Craig Oliver let all this go in favour of the more "sexy story" of the Afghanistan vote. So I doubt bias is at play here but what is at play is worse. Either incompetence or infotainment or perhaps both.

Pat:

Oliver is so biased and hate filled, coupled with age getting the better of him, that I really have a hard time watching him wind up a pretty good career in this fashion. There was a time that he’d of roasted FlapJack on the spot.

Guess that in downtown Toronto it’s OK to call a person a liar. Where I come from, it’s a declaration of war. Right now!!!

I do have a problem with schoolgirl Taber and owlish Oliver. They don’t seem to be interested in the real issues, as much as they are interested in the “conflict”….to entertain us.

Jane Taber would do well to get her own kind of “Razzle-Dazzle” kiddie show, and Craig Oliver, well, he should just retire decently, and spend some time with his Liberal buddies.

As for Kyoto, if it won’t work, why keep hanging on to it? Of course, that kind of logic is only for those who vote Liberal.

John:

It’s time for the CTV to gut it’s news department. Robertson and Oliver have trouble figuring out who they are in the morning never mind doing the news.

«I have a bigger problem with Craig Oliver not challenging Jack Layton …. Mr. Oliver asked Mr. Layton about [the] Minister saying that half the signatories are going to miss their targets.»

Ditto. Not having all the facts at my fingertips, I googled some info and sent off an email to Mr. Layton about it. I finished off the email with:

«Well, I’d say that Ms. Ambrose was right on target, unlike many signatories of the Kyoto Protocol. So who’s not telling the truth, Mr. Layton?»

I think more bloggers should point out to politicians that people are not asleep at the wheel, that we DO notice when they try to bamboozle us, and with email, it’s so easy.

Any takers? Layton.J@parl,gc.ca

hollinm:

Problem is none of the reporters including Oliver and Taber understand what Kyoto is all about. They only understand what the Liberals have told them. Taber admitted she didn’t understand the jargon on QP. Kyoto has almost taken on religious status in Canada thanks to a Liberal government and its propaganda machine. Harper/Ambrose need to take the gloves off and speak to Canadians directly and tell them the hard facts.
