Interesting list of the greatest albums of all time according to respondents to a British poll (h/t NealeNews). I won't quibble with the last that is, as expected, heavily laden with BritPop expect to say that I appear to one of the minority of U2 fans who prefer Achtung Baby to the Joshua Tree. But I am kind of weird that way - I prefer Star Wars to the Empire Strikes Back.
And for the record, I prefer (What's the story) Morning Glory? to Definetely Maybe. Mainly because I think the title track is Oasis' best. But again, I am kind of weird that way.

OK Computer is the best album of the last 15 years. It blows Oasis completely out of the water IMHO.

Hey, me too, on all counts! Clearly, we just have better taste than everyone else…

The first comment at the Telegraph, pointing out that most of the people surveyed must still have “nappy rash,” more or less sums it up.
Any intelligent attempt to identify “great albums” must lean heavily towards old stuff, simply because the influence and reach of newer stuff has yet to be determined.

Just where is Bat Out of Hell, huh?? No Famous Blue Raincoat by Jennifer Warnes?
Songs for Swinging Lovers?
To me, “Best Album” means just that: a long playing recording that takes advantage of that long form to create a mood or tell a story, even if it is merely implied.
And to prove I’m really old, what is “Computer” exactly?

PS: you know what this means, right? somewhere, sometime today, a very long Pet Sounds thread will be heating up and going on throughout the weekend…

What - no one has the grace to rejoice that, finally, and for the first time in my life, Hotel f**king California by the Eagles has been relegated to last place???
And Franz Ferdinand’s debut record makes the list, while neither of the first 2 Gang Of Four records place? They might have been raging commies, but credit where credit is due, please, even if you’re a tea-bagger.

Yes, good news about The Eagles.
The Sex Pistols, god luv em, should be nowhere near as high on this list.
I would have picked any Jam album (prob. Setting Sons) over All Mod Cons.
No Transformer, huh?
(Quitty quitty quit quit)

Socialist Greg:
Your views on politics may be questionable, but you clearly have impeccable taste in music. OK Computer had everything a great album requires - lyrically, melodically, rockingoutically, etc.
I should probably duck after saying this, but Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring, has been a favourite of mine since it came out.

Colour Of Spring was a great record, but I loved Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock even more.
But hey - Pussy Galore’s Right Now! didn’t make the list, or anything by The Germs, so screw ‘em, right?

Quitty McQuitterson reporting in here. First of all, Radiohead is the worst band ever. The only band worse than Radiohead is Crosby, Stills & Nash. And the only band worse than CSN? Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Ha. That one kills me every time.

Radiohead - love ‘em (and I am with Socialist Greg, OK Computer is better than anything by Oasis) CSN - like ‘em CSNY - like ‘em more the CSN but not as much as Buffalo Springfield. But I should declare I don’t actually own anything by CSN, CSNY or Buffalo Springfield.
And while I am in this genre the list is really missing The Band Brown Album.

Does that have anything to do with “the brown sound”?

Hendrix at 98?
That’s like a list of the greatest movies of all time and placing me at 98.
The list is a mockery of a sham of a travesty.
