What is so special about December?

First a little background,

...Sixty-seven-and-a-half hours after compressed committee meetings over the last six weeks, the massive and controversial Federal Accountability Act is expected to pass easily through report stage and third reading this week in the House, but it's not expected to pass in the Senate before December, says the Liberal critic for Bill C-2 in the Senate.

When I posted the lasted Bloggers Hotstove (later this morning) you will see why this is so important. Jason Cherniak clearly articulates the problems that the Liberals (and he argues everyone should) have a problem with the FAA in that it includes delegate fees to a convention as a political donation. If he is correct the FAA would apply to the current Liberal race (if passed) so it makes a lot of sense that the Liberal majority Senate would stall this until the convention is over.

Add another log to the "obstruction" fire though.

Nothing wrong with some tactical politics. All the parties play to the best advantage.

Tactical politics by UNELECTED senators - I don’t like it. At least we can vote out politicians who play games in the house that we don’t agree with. With the senators we have no such recourse, we’re stuck with them whether we like what they are doing or not and that’s not fair in my opinion. But who said all was fair in politics? I just think it would be a “cheap trick” to hold the FAA until after the Liberal Leadership Convention solely for that purpose but Canadians will see through it and the Conservatives will get a huge majority next election so maybe it’s a good thing (now that I think about it more…). :)

Just like with the Volpe thing, the Liberals have to figure out if they really want to shake the image of a party that will bend, twist and sidestep rules whever it suits their interests.

If the Libs delay this bill for selfish reasons, they will be giving Harper a big stick to beat them with, credibility-wise.
