That was worth a heads up

Seeing as I a big fan of the "At Issue Panel" on the CBC National I was given a heads up that I might enjoy their panel last night. Well did I ever. It was more like the Political Pundit Panel that Don Newman does on CBC Politics with the bulk of the participants around the same table - and it was a half an hour instead of the usually 7 minutes. Very enjoyable.

I have two recommendations for the CBC. First, create an At Issue Panel page on your website where you can watch independently of the one day only web National broadcast. Second, why not keep it at a half and hour by creating a program on CBC Newsworld? You have the flexibility to do this so why not?

Why does a NEWS show have a 30-minute gabfest of pundits?

Is this what taxpayers are paying for - opinions of habitually wrong pundits?

They’ve done that for as long as I can remember. If used to be the National followed by the Journal. Just because they rebranded the whole hour the National doesn’t change things.

You can’t do traditional news for an hour anyway. This gives them a chance to go more in depth. Sure, much of the time the documentary news stories they show can be tourqued but at least it is something different.

As for taxpayers, I can’t argue with you there. I watch the CBC for three things, the National and HNIC and the Olympics. The Olympics are already moving to private television, HNIC can exist on TSN or Sportsnet just as easily and as a point of fact I watch the National on Newsworld - which could easily become a private news channel.

And Chantal Hebert gets the smackdown of the night when naming Gerard Kennedy as the most over-rated pol. Too funny.

Ditto on Hebert’s skewering of Kennedy. She basically said if you are already the education minister of the largest province, and decide to run for federal leader on an education platform, you need to read the consitution.

I’d say the same applies to NormaBob Rae.
