The divisions in the Liberal Party continue to grow. On one side you have Bob Rae.
...Canada should have used the last 72 hours to make the case for UN peacekeeping on the border between Lebanon and Israel, accompanied by a firm timetable for a ceasefire and disengagement," Rae said in a statement issued as he campaigned for leadership delegates in Quebec.
Too bad there already are UN peacekeepers on the border accompanied by a firm timetable to remove Hezbollah, a deadline that has past, another UN mission that has failed.
And there is Scott Brison.
..."The biggest challenge in Lebanon is going to be nation-building," Brison said. "If Bob Rae is against nation-building in Afghanistan, why is he for it in Lebanon?"
"He's sucking and blowing at the same time."
And the once and future philosopher king? He is too busy to make a comment. Nice.

Bet scott Brison is having second thoughs of joining the liebreals now. I bet either he or Iggy will defect or go independent.

The one with the most to lose out of this issue is Dion.
Don’t expect the Asper’s to be too supportive of the liberals if they try to waffle on this one.

This comment by Bob Rae is priceless:
Rae, for his part, said he’s not against nation-building or peacekeeping anywhere in the world - only against the combat role that Canadian troops have assumed in Afghanistan under Harper.
I wonder how he expects to “nation build” in Lebanon without the armed interference of the Hezbollah? What will Canadian troops be expected to do there while fanatics burn infrastructure, destroy schools and kill teachers because they are provided by “Crusaders, Infidels and Jews”?
Stick your head back in the sand, Bob, and let the grown ups figure out how to fix the problems.

What are talking about Greg? He gave press conferences and scrums while he was at a G8 meeting. What the heck is Mr. Ignatieff too busy doing?

Sorry when you said “philosopher king” I got confused. I thought “philosopher” was too generous, but Steve certainly does act like a king. ;)

I find this one really amusing - obsessed with the Liberal divide - hey, the Liberals are allowed to think. Can you believe that? They are actually allowed to think on their own. Now, the neo-cons have to get approval from the “I can take a punch” chicken - you know the one - he’s constantly hiding from the press, from people. He even does whatever Dubya does - now isn’t that frightening.
You know the bully (they’re trying to get bullying out of the schools and what do we land as a PM - a bully and we all know that bullying is about control and power at any cost.
Oh yes, Mr. Can take a Punch is just so impressive so far - he’s afraid of the media if you can believe it. He’s paranoid - the media have been awfully good to him and he’s hiding like a chicken.

I found it especially funny when Axworthy dismissed Brison as someone so new to the party he “doesn’t really understand what Liberal foreign policy is about.”
And Bob Rae has been a Liberal for soooo long, he obviously has a good grasp on the say-much-do-little foreign policy of the Libs.

Sonya,
Are you Robert McClelland’s female alter ego or just aspiring to be?

Greg, further to what we were talking about before from David Akin:
Incidentally, Harper took precisely four questions from English-language journalists and two questions from a French journalist during his three days at the G8. He held a press conference after the G8 communique on Middle East but only to make a statement. He refused to take questions.
Yup he sure is the great communicator.

Easy on Greg (the socialist one) its not easy coming to grips with the fact that your ideological opposite is leading the country, gaining in popularity and is looking more and more like he’ll end up being one of Canada’s great leaders.
Imagine if it were Jack Layton……..no really, try to imagine….

Hey Greg (the socialist one) - how many questions did Chretien take at the Calgary G8? Or Martin at the UK G8? Do you know? Did you care at the time to check?
Just askin’

No, I just think we should all just give you a break, why with the current political scenario pretty much being the worst-case scenario for folks on the left.
It’s not about jealousy, its about sympathy.
