If you were to sit down and plot out a way to "cross the floor" and make it look principled would it look any different that the MP Khan plan?
...MP Wajid Khan is poised to temporarily give up his job as Liberal defence critic after accepting new duties as a special adviser on the Middle East to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
"If I cannot justify being in a position that I can perform, then I must move out and let somebody else take over while I'm busy with this (new assignment)," the Mississauga Liberal MP told The Canadian Press late Thursday.
"That's only fair."
Just a little more pushing and his journey to the darkside will be complete (sorry, couldn't resist).

I read the CP story a bit differently, GS.
It appears - from what his associate says in the CP piece - that Wajid “Principled” Khan is angling for the Defence Critic post.

Doesn’t it say that he is already the defence critic?

Yes, but Ujjal Dosanjh is the current Defence Critic, is he not?

Yes, you are correct. Looks like maybe it was sloppy reporting or a misspeak on the part of MP Khan. He is an associate Defence Critic. (http://www.liberal.ca/leader_e.aspx)

The funny thing here is that the Libs are pushing him out to cross the floor.

Yes that is funny. But what peculiar is which camp the frontline pushers are in.

Might not be such a bad thing for Harper to take our Volpe supporters.

Dan,
Hilarious idea. Libs need Volpe gone and fast.

I too believed the appointment of Wajid Khan as advisor to Stephen Harper was a prelude to a floor-crossing. However, today I read that he has temporarily suspended his attendence in caucus meetings while still maintaining his position as a chair of the Volpe campaign. In other words, the Liberals haven’t bitten. If Khan wants to bolt, he’ll have to make the next move.

It doesn’t take a rocket-scientist to see Harper’s strategy here. Either the Conservatives have inept people and haven’t got one single person who can fill this appointment, or Harper’s done an Emerson thing or Khan is dumb.
Nothing stops this snake (Harper) from slithering through the rocks.
If Khan is this ambitious or untrustworthy the Liberals are better off without him now rather than later.
