PoliticalStaples Exclusive

I was given the opportunity to interview MP Stephane Dion by his internet campaign (thanks Jason and Denise) and you can find the interview over at STIMedia. Please feel free to link to the interview but please link to the STIMedia/Interviews page instead of directly to the mp3, as I use Google Ads to help pay for the website maintenance and the traffic helps with that.
I found Mr. Dion to be a very nice man and I very much enjoyed speaking with him. In preparing for the interview I tried to think of the questions that the average "small c" conservative would have and since I am an average "small c" conservative I asked what was on my mind. I am not sure if I got anywhere on the question of Lebanon/Israel and I wanted to ask about Afghanistan but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get my other questions in so I skipped that one.
I liked his answers on taxation and tendencies towards big government - especially his reponse that there is no reason to grow the ferderal government in lock-step with growth in revenues.
I am not sure if I got anywhere with what it means to be "a liberal" but I pressed hard enough and since he was kind enough to give of his time I moved on. Forgive my indulgence in thanking him for the Clarity Act but I do think it is something to give thanks for.
If any other leadership candidates want to be interviewed by a non-Liberal blogger I would be very happy to do it. I can be contacted at greg.staples@rogers.com
And please feel free to give any constructive criticism. I am obviously an amatuer by I tried my best.

Congrats on such a good catch, Greg! And I’m with you on the Clarity Act (although it got its genesis from Manning/Harper).

I thought about adding the Manning/Harper thing to the question but I wanted to keep the smartass quotient low.

cb:

Good job.

nomdenet:

A very good listen- well done!

On the tech side - I could hear you Greg easily but Dion was a bit hard to understand – I think not just because of the French accent.

Dion is a good Canadian. He’s knowledgeable, honest and his heart is in the right place. He deserves credit on the Clarity Act even though it’s a Manning/Harper idea – at least he got it through – Dithers was against it, after he was for it.

Dion is utopian about Lebanon; they can’t deal with the Hez.

Not surprisingly he trusts government (“the Liberals- ruled - more last century than any other party in the free world”) to find efficient solutions more than he trusts Canadians making choices in the free market.

Greg – you’re a lot better than Mike Wallace … ;>)

tdot_liberal:

greg, smart ass or not, one should not engage in revisionist history. as a liberal, even i can admit that harper was the true author of the clarity act. it is sad that it was not our party that concepted it, but harper should be attributed for the work that was done.

An intriguing exercise to be sure, congrats to you. I would love to hear you interview Elizabeth May.

A great catch Greg, congrats!
