I may not have much to say at the moment but Gerry Nicholls does. Check out his post here, his Globe and Mail piece here and Buzz's manifesto here.
...We want a society in which working people can have true, hope, security, and equality; a society with full economic and political democracy. To accomplish this, we need to be able to thoroughly regulate private business; manage employment, investment, and trade; expand public ownership and non-profit enterprise; and run the economy in the interests of working people.page 23
If we succeed, we will have fundamentally transformed our economy and society, replacing capitalism with socialism.
Because socialism has worked oh so well in the past. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

My prediction about the CAW, now that workers feel a sense of entitlement and future employment building the Camaro I will bet the CAW will look at a Strike to cripple GM’s chance at recovery. The benefits and job security will be the leading charge to demand better pay with less fear of lay-offs , every time FORD/GM/Chrysler show a profit the CAW wants part of the and merely continue the cycle of lower car sales and job losses.
During the news promo for the Camaro I couldn’t help notice the employee’s seem to control the dress-codes on the assembly line , I’ve always felt that if someone doesn’t appear to care about themselves in public, then how can I feel they care about others . I don’t see the CAW’s troubles as any big surprise , workers keep demanding more money and when times get tough the Union bosses want Government handouts to save jobs. The CAW has about 3 years to plan their attack on the Auto industry , I believe this will happen just as Toronto has the TTC and Teachers that Strike at the most critical time as to cause the most anger by the Public.
I’ve seen this action before and just wait and watch for it all to unfold just as the plant gears up to ship cars to the US market.

Greg,
Remember when we had that discussion about what the word ‘socialism’ means? Well, it’s this:
thoroughly regulate private business; manage employment, investment, and trade; expand public ownership and non-profit enterprise; and run the economy in the interests of working people
Just saying. :-)

And as you’ve said this is not NDP policy. Thank God for that. I shudder to think of the damage to Canada if we allowed a centralized group to do those mentioned in the quote above.

There actually are quite a few socialists—in the literal sense—in the NDP. But it isn’t accurate to call someone a socialist by virtue of their being a member of the NDP, which is what my beef was with your comment of weeks ago.

Maybe Buzz has lost it. First he campaigns for the Liberals and suggested the Bloc. Then he disolves the relationship with the NDP. Now , he’s advocating full on socialism?
He’s all over the map. At this rate, will Stephen Harper have his support in the next election? ;)
