If you are not getting enough election speculation in your diet check out this article from The Hill Times. I have said before, and some of you think I am nuts for saying this, if there is to be a fall election it will be on the environment not softwood.
Considering this is softwood deal that the Liberals would have signed if not for the fact that we were in an election campaign and Quebec labour unions are pushing the BQ to vote for it I see the chances of an election on this as somewhere between slim and none.
However the CPC has committed to bringing forward the Green Plan II. This will involve a lot of money so by definition it is a confidence vote. The NDP will vote against it because it will not commit to meeting the Kyoto targets. Same thing for the BQ. Then it up to the Liberals - do they support a clean air/clean water bill that will not reach Kyoto targets or so they trigger a fall election? I do not envy them on that choice but if I were a CPC strategist those are the corners I would want to be pushing them into all fall.
