The best word I can use to describe this movie is intriguing. I typically like my movies with a quicker pace and I usually have a hard time with movies with an anti-hero lead. This movie managed to have those elements but still have me interested. In short it is because it is like watching a slow-motion car crash. Also from the first scene you see that the lead character, played by Robin Wright Penn, is off but how far off is the question. Further the story well crafted so that there is a good reason for her characters depression so you are able to feel sympathy for the character.
Without revealing too much of the plot your sympathies change to Muslim cab driver as the movie goes on but you never are quite sure what the deal with him is either. I am pretty sure this is on purpose as this movie plays with the common reactions to the white woman whose husband has left her and a Muslim whose brother has been arrested for allegedly being a terrorist.
If you are in for a slower, thought-provoking movie then I recommend you check this one out.
