This is as I have suspected for a long time. Here are results from an SES Research poll.
Question: Thinking about Canada's foreign policy what is more important to you: [Rotate] that our foreign policy be consistent with the United Nations or that Canada pursue its own interests outside of the United Nations?
Be consistent with the UN 63%
Pursue own interests 27%
Unsure 10%
When people desire an independent foreign policy for Cnada what they really mean is indepedent from the United States but entirely dependent on the United Nations. Why one is bad and the other is good is beyond me. Further, if your are going to cede your ability to formualte foreign policy do you really weant to cede it to the likes of Russia and China? I am all for Boy Scout Canadianism but some common sense needs to sprikled in occasionally. But I should be fair. There are at least a couple ot types of people who want our foreign policy to follow, in lockstep, with the United Nations - those who know little about the UN and idealize it and those who now what it is about but don't care. Can you sense which group frustrates me more?

The question is ridiculous. The results are false.
In thinking about government programs, which is more important to you, that we look out for one another, or that you pursue your own interests?

OC that’s what’s scary, these 63% are transnational multi-culti’s and they don’t think we should be so selfish as to have our own sovereign interests.
They suffer from sovereignty suicide. That’s why they can partner with a death cult like the Islamic Fascists. We can wipe out the latter easily; our big problem is the enemy within. Maybe we need a Clarity Act for Canada to become a sovereign nation again.

Well said. The usual reflexive anti-americanism always seems to rear its head. How the UN has not been completely discredited as a forum of dictators, tyrants, failures, and corrupt bureaucrats is beyond me. I’d like to see a poll on successful UN actions or ventures.

This kind of crap makes me puke. The average joe Canadian is a dolt.

John,
I do understand your frustration. But let’s be careful. The average Joe Canadian voted in enough numbers to elect the one party that stands a chance of shifting the tectonic plates towards a new centre.

I suspect if there was any other administration in the White House, the numbers would be different. I know conservatives don’t like to hear this, but Canadians really, really, dislike George Bush.

To be fair, alot of conservatives would be happier if Guliani or McCain was the President of the United States too. On the other hand, it wasn’t our choice to make and Al Gore and John Kerry weren’t exactly inspiring options to have in Bush’s stead.

“I know conservatives don’t like to hear this, but Canadians really, really, dislike George Bush.”
Bush is not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination. Why would conservatives object to this?
