Jack Layton will not be happy with Adam Radwanski this morning.
...There's shallowness in the sense of not understanding complex issues. And then there's the kind of shallowness in which you understand those issues, but choose to play dumb for the sake of expediency. The kind in which opportunism trumps responsibility. And that, increasingly, is becoming the halmark of Layton's leadership.
The next election is a big deal for Mr. Layton. Part of his traditional support wants the NDP to back to pushing the Liberals to implement their policies. Those who have stuck with the NDP are pushing them further to the left when I argue that they should have cozied up to the centre-left. There is no denying that the NDP has been well served under the leadership of Jack Layton. The question now is whether he can continue their growth or not? Further, can the NDP ever break their 18% (and change) ceiling or not? And if so is Jack Layton the man to do it? We will have the answer to those questions in the spring.

And if anybody knows about shallowness, it’s Adam!

Mr. Layton and his misfits are looking sillier everyday as he espouses a policy of appeasement while saying he supports the troops. They are incompatible and Canadians know it. So the 18% who represent the looney left in the country will continue to support the NDP but the party will remain on the fringes. Anybody who thinks that the NDP is a modern uptodate party need only look at the resolutions proposed by some of their districts. Ideas clearly rooted in the 50’s. Layton reminds me of a used car salesman and I think a lot of Canadians think that is what he is and will never vote NDP.
