Anybody who wonders about my skepticism regarding the capitalist system need look no further than webhosts. Lured away from a perfectly decent and sensible European webhost to a large American outfit, it seems that our Movable Type installations killed their CPUs and, as a result, all of my domains were suspended with very little notice. I am still in the process of trying to get access to my old files and databases, and I've been given a worst case scenario of Friday.
In the interim, I've set up a temporary blog for Greg's readers so that they don't have to wait any longer for his sage thoughts. You can read more about this situation over at my temporary blog while things progress. And once normal service is restored, I'll give you a full rundown of what happened and name names.
I've rarely been this frustrated and angry, and even though I try to keep this in perspective, this sort of shoddy service really gets to me. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and I'll turn over the floor to Greg Staples. (clap! clap! clap! clap! clap!)

I tried to go with a Canadian webhost, which had a nice, clean user interface, decent storage and bandwidth stats, and which knew about Movable Type and offered instructions on how to install it. So I tried… and immediately ran into a problem. And the technical support answers didn’t satisfy me.
So, I ended up running, not walking, to the webhost that has given me decent, if unremarkable, service for more than two years: 1 and 1. As long as my streak of progress in getting things back to normal continues, I’m going to recommend these guys to anybody looking for a new webhost.

Come now, James — in the capitalist system, you have the luxury of changing webhosts until you find a reliable one. In the Glorious People’s Republic, you’re stuck with the sh*tty service that the country’s one webhost gives you.
