Now for something completely different

As you know by now (if you been reading this blog for any length of time) I am a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica. Watching the latest episode on the weekend got be thinking about different ways to mix the show up. Fans will know that the present way is to reverse the sides, makes the Humans the terrorists, er insurgents and dull the lines between the Cylons and Humans. Watching the movie Reds (see here) got me thinking that the Cylon revolution is a classic case of meet the new boss, same as the old boss or more to the point it is Animal Farm - all Cylons are equal but some Cylons are more equal than others. Now I realize that there are "Human models" simply to keep the CG budget down but it could make for some interesting plot lines. The "toasters" are still slaves under there Cylon 12 masters (assuming that the mechanized models are cyborgs like their flying cousins) and though the back story has never been examined it does not seem hard to believe their "lives" could have been better before the second Cylon-Human war.
So here is your plot twist or more accurately I guess the way the show can end peacefully - a counter-revolution.

Well, I’m not sure how relevant this prediction is, but back in Season 1, we noted Ron Moore’s tendency to take and reimagine particular elements of the old series, and we wondered if they’d try to reimagine Galactica 1980. That was a dire show based on an interesting premise: the fleet makes it to Earth, but finds it too primitive to fend off the Cylons, so they infiltrate Earth to try and accelerate its technology.

Our Ron Moore take: by the time Galactica reaches Earth (end of Season Five), an embittered Adama decides that the human race on the planet isn’t ready to face the Cylon fleet, so he’s taking over to bulk up its defences. He gains allies in some of the countries, but others object, and he takes them out, using Galactica’s fighters, guns, and the technique of picking up big rocks from the moon and dropping them from great height on the capital cities.

Keller:

That. Would. Be. Awesome. Adama becoming Supreme Overlord of present day Earth.

To be fair a present-day Earth would be facing huge problems. i.e. we have massive planet wide poorly secured networks that tie in directly with defence networks and nuclear weapons that human hackers can sometimes break, let alone Cylons.

On the other hand give our aerospace and military industries BSG technology (especially antigravity) and a goal to save the planet and OMFG we get space battleships like that!
