Call me a Pollyanna

or just prone to look at the glass half-full of things but if you are a Liberal do you not read this poll not as the headline says (Most still wary of liberals) but rather as 34% of Canadians think were ready to come back? And would not that represent a slight uptick in support? Listen, I don't want to the Liberals spinning for them but I can't help look at things that way.

Dr. Strangelove:

Greg,

It sounds absolutely horrible for the Liberals if you ask me. Mind you, it’s just a poll. But if 60% indeed believe that the Liberals are not ready, that leaves the other 40%, who believe they’re ready, to also consider the ready status of the other parties. So waht I’m saying is, take 100 people: 60 of them aren’t voting Liberal, while some portion of the 40 remaining may vote Liberal. Or they may not if they feel another party is more ready. And the party in power has a real advantage here. For they have already been deemed to be ready a short while ago.

What I like about this poll though is that it appears to confirm the inherent understanding Canadians have with the process. The Liberals were not removed from power for just a two-minute minor. They were removed because Canadians finally understood that this party needs a long period of adjustment and refocus - Just like the tech sector, there’s still people who think Nortel, Dell, Oracle, Micorsoft et al are ready for a move. But in reality, these cycles are counted in terms as long as decades, just like political cycles. And the abbreviated Joe Clark government was an exception to the rule, just like RIM.
