I mean really, what the hell is wrong with the UN. Just when you thought that the likes of Mark Steyn carries things too far the UN proves him right. Now we know that never again is happening again with global inaction and with UN personnel sexually exploiting children.

You’re out of line. When bad things happen, it’s “the individual member nations”. It’s only “the UN” when good things happen.

Actually lrC, its the member nations when its both the good and the bad.
The main problem with the UN is the half baked commitment by member nations, and the veto in the security council.
Frankly I hope that those committing these acts are arrested and tried at the ICC for war crimes, that other part of the UN that seems to do good work.

In most cases (exceptions being those where the UN bureaucracy really does control itself) I agree; but, my earlier post was a tongue-in-cheek backhand to UN-philes, who tirelessly excuse the failures as lying in the hands of member nations and claim the successes for the organization.

Just out of curiosity, then, why is it when some UN folks in Congo get accused of this, its a blight on the whole UN and the organizations should be destroyed, but when the US Army regularly tortures and abuses prisoners in places like Abu Ghraib, its not the whole US Army, but a few “bad apples”?
I mean, just saying, Greg.
