In Don Martin's last column of 2006 he predicted that a Liberal would cross the floor for a junior cabinet position. Now I see this. Could Wajid Khan be this predicted MP? Will he become the first CPC MP in the all-important "seat-rich" Mississauga area? Seems we will find out pretty quickly.

One would hope not. The guy is an idiot. If you read Delacourt’s article clearly, my hope would indeed turn out to be reality.

No wonder Harper is shifting focus from clean government to the environment.

I can’t see Khan getting a cabinet position. For one thing, I don’t think Harper would tick off capable backbenchers like this. For another thing, I don’t think Harper wants to look like the second coming of Paul Martin.
I think what’s more likely is that Khan will sit as an independent and announce his intention to run as a Conservative in the next election. He’ll vote with the Conservatives from that point on.
As for the anonymous poster’s smear on Khan, I can only surmise that the Liberal dirty tricks campaign on the guy has already started. LOL
Khan’s departure from the Libs would be a huge bonus for Harper. Mississauga is a Toronto area no-go zone for Harper right now. Clement was chased from the area in the 2004 election. And Khan is well known among area sports fans, since he had a lot of fun — before becoming an MP — on a local radio station, the Fan 590.

Is that the same guy? I don’t listen to the Fan 590 much anymore, but I do recall him, he was hilarious!

Come on down to Dufferin Mazda. Yup, that’s the guy. Good name brand recognition with the “Tim Hortons” voter.

And in case anyone missed it, a +1 CPC/-1 Lib means that the CPC can form a tie or majority with any other party, not just the Libs or Bloc.
Now that really makes the environment issue, Layton’s base being eroded by the Greenies an interesting scenario.

Given that the speaker’s a Liberal, the NDP and the CPC had a working majority once Emerson crossed. When Harper can get any one opposition party to support his legislation, it’ll pass the House.

That assumes the independants vote CPC or split though. Granted, a safe bet.

Come on down to Dufferin Mazda. Yup, that’s the guy. Good name brand recognition with the “Tim Hortons” voter. And the Leafs Nation. Khan did all those commercials with Gord Stellick, well known media personality and former Leafs GM. Walk on almost any street in the GTA and in every second garage there’s a Leafs poster.
I think Khan is one of the few people where he has more noteriety outside politics than inside it. He’s definitley gotta a lot of sleeper factors going for him if he makes the move.

Wajid is done. He is going to lose it for the Tories.

Funny thing is, I’m a longtime Torontonian, and I never heard of Wajid Khan before. Frankly, I don’t expect to hear much from him again.
