Let the fighting begin

This looks like a typically Canadian solution.

...The proposal would exempt 50 per cent of revenues from natural resources rather than the 100 per cent previously promised to Saskatchewan, Radio-Canada said.
Under the proposed plan, Quebec would get a total of $7 billion instead of the $5.5 billion in transfers it now gets.
Saskatchewan would get only $200 million instead of the $800 million it is awaiting.
Harper would be accepting the recommendations of a report ordered by the federal government last year which suggested that half the revenues of the provinces drawn from natural resources be included in the calculation of equalization payments.
It is a position supported by Quebec but opposed by Alberta and Newfoundland-Labrador.

So Alberta and Saskatchewan (otherwise known as the core base) will be opposed. Danny Williams will be hoping mad and Dalton "election year" McGuinty will pile on. Out of the frying pan into....another frying pan Ms. Ambrose - this will be very interesting.

This will not go over well in Newfoundland.

I’m not so sure that Albertans will be 100% opposed. A lot will depend on what else changes, I think.

Greg:

I told you. Plan B is open the vault for Quebec.

Saskatchewan will be pissed over this. The provincial NDP government will make this the election issue here if they can.

That’s what Harper is counting on. He knows that AB and SK will for the most part fall in line and vote Cons. anyway, so he’s giving them the middle finger on this issue. It’s just how the NDP gets elected in SK, they screw unions over, but they have all union leaders convinced that any other choice is worse for them.
