Looks like some Liberals are worried about how Stephane Dion has turned himself into a one-trick pony. I wonder if that pony is named Kyoto?
...During a closed door caucus meeting Wednesday, insiders say several MPs politely encouraged Dion to broaden his attack on the Conservative government and demonstrate to Canadians that he has a firm grasp on a wide range of issues.
Remember those ads that people were jumping all over yesterday? You know, the ones that questioned Stephane Dion's leadership...and apparently didn't work.
...One MP speculated that concerns about the focus on climate change may be driven by “jealousy” from MPs who feel they’re not being given a chance to shine on other issues.
Indeed, during the caucus meeting, insiders said there were some complaints that only a small group of MPs are being allowed to perform during question period.
Dion staged a stunning, come-from-behind leadership victory in December, running as a champion of environmental sustainability. However, some Liberal MP privately doubt he’ll be able to ride the same horse to victory in an election.
“You can’t win an election just on climate change,” said one. “I’ve seen this video before. The environment is very important until an election is called and then it drops.”
Several MPs said their constituents are more likely to vote on matters that affect them more directly and personally, such as taxes and the economy.
Although these are not explicitly connected it all goes to the narrative. A huge part of political leadership is dealing with the back-benchers and those with bruised egos. Considering Dion had practicly no support from caucus during the leadership campaign any loyalty he has earned has shallow roots.
During the last campaign polling numbers followed leadership numbers. Leadership numbers are hard to change but once (and if) they do everything else follows.

Strange…insiders are suddenly compromising intel from Liberal caucus meetings. Who on earth would do such a thing?

I think the problem for voters at the moment is there is no leadership evident at the federal level, on the most crucial issue of our time, from anyone who has even the remotest chance of winning an election.

Greg, where are you getting this “behind closed door” caucus stuff? Is it on Garth’s Blog?
Apparently there is a leadership counter ad coming out where Dion and the Kyoto pony will perform in the Cirque de Soleil to prove Dion can lead a pony to water if the pony is really, really thirsty.

The most crucial issue of our time is excessive socialism, especially in Quebec, which I do not want to prop up any more.

No Greg, they can’t pay any attention to this because …We’re in a catch 22.
We have to bribe Quebec one more time because they have 75 seats most of which are perversely filled with separatists. Canada has the most perverted electoral system in the free world whereby we pay taxpayer money for separatists to go to Ottawa and try to bust up my country. We have to end that with a majority government, whereby we’ll decentralize and then if Quebec still wants to be a stronghold of socialism along with Cuba .. .well then you’ll have a choice.

If you had stopped there, I would have agreed, 100%. We do need to get a majority government, that’s for sure, but one based on a majority of votes cast, not some warped first past the post monstrosity.

Greg, first past the post is somewhat of a related argument but that’s not what I mean, I’m talking about the Bloc that wants to destroy my country being favoured and no one, no one wants to stop the perversion.
Note the problem with seat numbers and percentage of national vote.
CPC 124 seats 36.3%
Lib 103 30.2
Bloc 51 10.5%
NDP 29 17.5%
The perversion is that the Bloc received only 10.5% but gets 51 seats.
This is where you will get upset…The NDP received MORE than the Bloc, at 17.5% of the federal vote but got only 29 seats.
How perverted is that?
We’ve set up a situation where one political party (one that wants to destroy Canada) is privileged and can get half as many seats as, e.g., the Liberals, with only one third of the vote.
If I was Borat, I would say, do not go to Canada to discover how to run a democracy … they don’t know!
