Charles Adler piles on. Does anyone know what day his interview with James Travers occured?
...Travers thinks the controversial ads that the Tories have been running, worked on damaging Dion in the public eye. Regardless of how many social scientists tell you that negative ads don't work and regardless of how many pollsters tell you that Canadians saw the ads as unfair, there is a truism in life that is irrevocable. Life isn't fair. Politics isn't fair, and so voters don't expect fair.
And so is there is no national hissy fit over the ad. What there is a growing perception that Dion is weak.
It didn't take a lot of cattleprodding on my part to get Travers to cough up why the ads scorched the Liberal leader's thin layer of skin. "Those ads worked because the Liberals I talked to think they worked," said Travers.
Update: Go the the CJOB AudioVault on Friday Feb 9 at 1:00PM. James Travers is more forceful against Stephane Dion in this interview than in his column I spoke about here.

Link works now, thanks. Dion is not a leader, very true ads, and the polls are starting to show it. He is awful at question period, and the Liberals know it, that’s why Gore and Suzuki are out in full force.

The ads worked because the general public never watched what happened at the Liberal leadership convention. Now they see Liberals attacking Liberals.
These are Liberal attack ads, and the Conservatives are only replaying for the general public what happened.
Iggy told the truth too, and Dion whined.

Dion’s focus on the environment as the only issue may have backfired because the last time I looked, the real number one concern for Canadians has been health care. Still, the attack ads have probably reinforced a negative image of the guy and there’s a host of parody ads on youtube that are worth a chuckle. Here’s one:

They are information ads.
The public can discern between attack/negative ads like the ones the Liberals fabricated about guns in our streets, in our cities.
But our ads aren’t fabricated; they are facts, Iggy, an insider, warning Canadians that Dion did not act. The voters can process that and come to a conclusion based on the fact Iggy has shared his analysis of the situation with them.
In the US they have FOX. We need Moose. If we had a Conservative network, which we will someday because that’s the fastest growing segment of the consumer population, then we would not need ads to get the information out. We’d have Staples instead of O’Reilly.
I think born-again conservative financier Gerry Schwartz and Murdock should start the Moose network.

I get a real laugh when people in the media try to assert that advertising has no affect on people , just imagine how sore your butt would be if you worked in the Ad Department of a Radio/TV station and you heard a salaried Staff memeber tell all the Companies that you are ripping them off with bogus surveys that show Advertising DOES work. I heard this exact type of claim one day by a radio host and they didn’t stay around too long once I pointed this out to the Station manager who played the tapes to confirm what I alleged happened.

I have no where near the bombast or skill of a Bill O’Reilly but thanks.
