I caught John Ivison on Charles Adler's radio program (Updated: click the Wednesday, 2:00PM link and go to the 8 min mark) on my drive home from Sudbury this afternoon. John Ivison said the buses are being booked and PM Harper is doing debate preparation. All this and the means to end a government passed tonight. See you on the campaign trail.

Dion miscalculated once again.
Perhaps for the last time.

Let’s pressure the Liberals for a concrete, specific plan how they are going to put the bill that passed today in the House into effect.

So… Harper, given the burden of the bill tonight, presents a spending bill that calls for $100 Billion to be dedicated to allow the targets to be achieved. He explains how this expenditure will require a $10,000 tax attribution per household. He explains how 200,000 jobs will be lost. And how this bill will cripple Canada’s global productivity. He explains how his own party will vote against their own spending bill, because it is not of their volition but that of the opposition. Then we have a spending bill that will not pass, and he asks the GG to dissolve Parliament based upon this this inability for the government to govern.

It’s the 2 PM link, you mean. And it starts around the 8 minute mark.
But yes, darned interesting, isn’t it?

I just don’t get this — why is Dion pressing so hard for an election??? Why are ANY of the Opposition so eager for an election? It seems exactly the wrong time for them.
Weird. Interesting.

A good indicator of how well (poorly) a company’s stock is doing is by looking at the insiders’ stock dispositions. Senior execs selling off their stock means they think the price will go down.
Dion’s selling his stock. The Libs know it’s only downhill from here.

btw, CTV’s Robert Fife reported tonight that Elections Canada feels it’s necessary to be prepared for an election by March.
I looked at Pablo Rodriguez and other Liberals gloating over this vote tonight and I didn’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for them.
The self-delusion started with picking a “green” leader who’s actual record on the environment is brown. Looks like it might end during an election where they get absolutely skunked on the issue of meeting Kyoto targets they did absolutely nothing to meet themselves when they had a chance for a decade.

450,000 unemployed according to the Liberals own study - they must have stashed a lot of the cash they stole if they’re willing to screw so many Canadians.

Philanthropist, are you serious, where did you find that number because I have been looking for the economic costs of implementing Kyoto. I totally agree with Brian, the opposition wants a plan to honor Kyoto then the government should give it to them. I don’t care how drastic it is, if they want to meet those goals, then lets see what the cost is going to be. Then let them explain to the Country why they are voting for it when the CPC votes against their own bill. Now that would make history.

Well, the Tories say strict Kyoto compliance is a no-go, so I don’t know why they would be required to put forth a plan.
However, I also don’t know why Stéphane Dion can get away with all this thumping on Kyoto without putting forth a plan himself.
Where is his plan? Why doesn’t he tell us exactly how he will meet Kyoto. And while he’s at it, why not tell us why he didn’t start doing it a decade ago while in government?
All this agitation by Libs about Kyoto is rank hypocrisy. It would be poetic justice if they were to get destroyed in an election on this issue.

I heard all the panelists on CBC concluded that Dion just handed Harper a gift with this vote. Ya think?
They also all agreed that the Sun was hot, and that the Pacific ocean is really big and wet.

Dion’s plan, re: Mark Holland/Charles Adler:
H: Well that would mean, in my opinion, we need to stabilize the oil sands, we need, we don’t need to be multiplying them times five.
A: You mean taking less stuff out of the sands is what you’re saying?
H: Exactly, using it responsibly, over a protracted period of time, making sure that we can actually meet our international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
A: So would Stephane Dion in a campaign go on record and say that , uh, we are not going to allow the energy companies in Alberta to take as much out of the sands as they plan to take out?
H: Yeah, I think what you~Rre going to be seeing is, we’re going to say that you can not exploit, uh, that resource, that you can’t basically go in there and pump it out as fast as you can and give it to the Americans, uh, and sell out our national interests and, blow apart our emissions targets.

Canadians are gonna love that one.

I mean seriously, do the Liberals really think that they can close down the oil sands. Alberta would simply seperate. I guess that would help Canada meet its Kyoto commitments but it will also make fielding those transfer payments a bitch.

Jason, the NDP and the Bloq are “neutrals” in this fight. They know that they can gain from the pasting that the Libs are going to get over this if it goes to an election. They’re going to stick to the regular message, the CPC is going to hammer the economic message and the Libs are going to back-pedal all their worth.
An amusing quote I saw on CalGrit the other day, shades of 88. Truer words have never been written.
Given economy today vs. environment in 50 years, economy wins every time. I am flabbergasted at the “stratugee” coming from the Liberals. It makes no sense.
Cheers

LIBERALS PREDICTED ALMOST HALF A MILLION JOB LOSSES IF KYOTO WERE IMPLEMENTED
It’s here:
http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.html?id=9c126e34-1a54-4f64-bae8-7206dc8af570
That is huge, and it should be everywhere.
The Libs are apparantly OK with a massive ressessionary layoff, as long as they can try and force Harper to do it. And to no effect - all the while the real emitters, China and Russia are exempt.

Greg, did you see At Issue last night? What did you think of Hebert’s prediction that the BQ will stick to the government like glue if Charest wins?
