More fuel

The Phantom Observer links to a Hill Times story wherein Garth "look at me!" Turner predicts that the election will by May 28th. That is if the Loyalist/Beer Drinkers alliance can be convinced to allow an election over the Victoria Day/May 24 holiday season. If it is not one thing it is another.

ET:

I think Garth Turner’s comments are, as usual, only about Garth and his obsessive desire for attention. His ‘three areas’ of budget, economic impacts of Kyoto and terrorism’ are hardly obscure agendas. And, they are not enough; the CPC campaigns, as shown in the last election, on specific positive agendas, ie, what they have to offer, not negative issues.

These outlined by Gred are negative; the Liberals campaign on negative issues. I’d suggest that Garth Turner is doing as he usually does - repeating caucus comments. This time, it’s Liberal caucus comments.

I think that the party that is desperate, really desperate, for an election - is the Liberal Party. They have to get rid of Dion, and a sooner rather than later election is preferable. Leave it to later and they’ll lose massively. If they engineer an early election, they’ll lose, but not as massively as when more people across the country realize what a twit Dion is.

The NDP don’t want an election yet; they’d prefer to watch the Liberals implode. After all, the Liberal agenda has been to steal seats and support from the NDP - that’s what their Kyotoism is all about (it’s certainly not about the env’t, for they don’t give a damn about the env’t).

The Bloc doesn’t want an election yet; they know they’ll lose.

So- there’s only one party that is desperate for an election. The Liberal party - to enable them to get rid of Dion.

Smart Rs:

Ignatieff had the chance but alas the backbone to vote for the security provisions and against Dion. He would have taken a good number of dissenting Liberals with him and either forced Dion to stand down as leader or split the party temporarily to force him out. The upcoming budget will have lots in it for Quebec and the other provinces/territories so the bloc will be forced to vote for the budget and they will be worrying about the PQ results. The NDP will definetely not want to go into an election while the Greens are nipping at their heels and I expect them to come to some sort or agreement with the Conservatives to show they still have what it takes to make the government work for “working families”. With the NDP and Bloc in such a precarious position I can see Stephen Harper going through to 2009 and the Liberals will slowly self destruct if they don’t drop the inept Dion. One blogger, I forget his name, likened Dion to a hockey player who goes to where the puck is while Stephen Harper is a player who goes to where the puck is going to be. I believe that Stephen Harper may well turn out to be one of the best Prime Ministers that Canada has seen.

ian:

I am very happy with Stephen Harper although the Liberals did not set the bar very high.

For what it’s worth, that’s the same date I heard mentioned by a party insider this weekend. Oh, not a very credible insider, I’m afraid, or I’d take it more seriously. But I thought I’d mention it.
