Let's Play Ball!

It's time for another baseball season and hope springs eternal. Longtime readers know I am a longtime supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. It all started back in 1985. Twelve years old is the perfect age for a boy to start seriously watching baseball and the '85 Jays were the perfect team to start with. Wouldn't it be nice if the 2007 edition was as good as the 1985 team. This team is getting better but there are still too many questions in the starting rotation. Can Roy Halladay stay healthy an entire season? Is A.J. Burnett an overpriced .500 pitcher or will he live up to his contract? Can Gustavo Chacin bounce back from an injury plagued season. Can Toma Ohka and Josh Towers (or even Victor Zambrano) give the Jays better results than the 11-32 record for the 4/5 slot last year (it won't be hard).

In the end won or both of the Yankees and Red Sox are going to have to come back to the pack for the Jays to finally get back in the playoffs but like I said, hope springs eternal.

Shaun M:

The problem isn’t just the need for Towers and Ohka to beat last year’s 11-32 record of the Jay’s 4 & 5 starters, of which Towers was one of those #5 starters largely responsible for such a dismal performance, it’s that they need to do SUBSTANTIALLY better than that. 4/5 starters need to give the Jays 20 wins, and Chacin, now the third starter, looks no better than last year. Towers looks like he has a little confidence back, but will it last the first outing he has when he is rocked?

The ‘85 Jays played like a machine — complete with automatic choke!

Remember that GD George Brett - couldnt get him out

If they got 87 wins with last year’s roster, there’s no reason this year’s shouldn’t get 90 wins.

One heck of an opening day game, eh?

Greg, will you be making a lot of excursions to the Dome - er, I mean the Centre - this year? Maybe a “Bloggers Baseball Day” wouldn’t be a bad idea …

Greg, drop me a note if you want to meet up at a game. Am considering Bosox next week?
