Stephen Taylor does have good sources so when he muses that there will not be a spring election he may have inside knowledge on it. On the other hand it could be a head-fake to get the Liberals to put their guard down before a spring election. Or maybe they know that you would think of the head-fake so it is a double head-fake. The Decima poll shows the Tories 6 points ahead of the Liberals in Ontario. Last week they were behind 8 points.
It is not the voters who are volatile. It is the polling sample that is jumpy.

If I was Harper, and I wanted to do a head fake, I would just have a meeting with the GG, maybe once a week, and talk about, oh I don’t know, fishing, the weather, Canada day on the Hill, whatever. And I would always be coy about it. After 76 or so front page headlines, the papers might actually stop, just like you should.

Well PM Harper has been saying all along that he doesn’t want an election, it’s the MSM and opposition who are yapping about one. I want to hear more about the RCMP, and the CWB books are now open, that should be fun. Work hard over the summer, then go for it in the fall, please no more winter elections, my fingers are finally unthawed from the last one, and I want to keep them that way.

Hunter - He can’t go in the Fall because there are provincial elections scheduled/expected in Ontario, Newfoundland, and Saskatchewan during the Oct/Nov timeframe.
If he doesn’t go now, it is next Spring, which is when Quebec might be heading to the polls again.
It is either now, or possibly, Fall 2008. Which date do you think Dion would prefer?
