Interesting about Quebec though, eh? Trillions of dollars and still behind the Bloc and Grits? Too bad this poll is only fit for dogs.

Greg, what are the perceived biases of each polling firm? I can never remember which one leans which way.

I have no proof on this it is just that it seems that the polls match the editorial stance of the publisher (don’t ask me why). Decima polls for Canadian Press, Strategic Counsel for CTV/Globe and Mail. EKOS for Torstar, Ipsos-Reid for Global/National Post. You can figure it out from there.
Funny how the one that has the best track record polls for CPAC.

BQ at 8? I thought CW was that they’d fallen through the floor, evidenced by the PQ result.

Decima was founded in the 1980s by Allan Gregg who was then the Tories’ pollster. It is was headed for a while by David Crapper who also had Tory ties. Not sure where Bruce Anderson sits.

Bruce Anderson is the brother of Rick Anderson (who was Manning’s advisor), isn’t he?

You can’t compare old Mulroney/Clark Progressive Conservatives with today’s Conservative Party. In many cases there is a real hatred by old PCs because they blame the Reform party for destroying their days at the trough. And the PC’s fought against the reform/Alliance in elections and many PC’s will never be Conservatives. They would rather hold their noses and work for the Liberals which many are doing. Gregg is one of these. And Anderson’s nose was out of joint for various reasons. So no Conservative love there either.

Lorraine - So why are all these Harper hating polling/media organizations proclaiming that he is inches away from a majority?

Are you hinting that polling companies manipulate the results of their polls?
I believe HOW the questions are framed, time of day the calls are made, what kind of questions are asked as a bridge, etc. are manipulation enough. At that I read the polls with these “legal but slimey” manipulations built in.
I could go into how many no’s they now get for every completed call, how they can stack more socialists into daytime calls (non working, welfare) but you learn all of that in market research 101 on how NOT to skew the results.
I have always said that no poll should be allowed to be treated as “news” or even credible without an arm’s length peer review. And yes, you can make a poll say pretty well what your client wants which tells me the Liberals are lower than in these polls and probably the Conservatives are higher.
But, they are snapshots only.
