This is a tough movie to review because for most of it the movie does not work but in the end it is pulled together. How do I talk about that without spoiling the ending? OK, you know a good chunk of the ending because it is about the assasination of Robert F Kennedy in 1968 but that is only part of it.
The movie has an all-star cast including Anthony Hopkins, Helen Hunt, Laurence Fishburn - they even managed to find a role for Christain Slater (where has he been?) and Written and Directed by Emilio Estevez. That, in itself explains much of what is wrong with the movie. Estevev has distinct take on the events at the Ambassador Hotel and for the most of the film you have to withstand his indulgences. Especially his beating you over the head with bit characters soliloquy supported by swelling music. After the fourth or fifth time it becomes laughable.
So if you are like me and like Kennedy movies you'll want to check this one out, though I would put behind JFK and Thirteen Days if want to watch just one, and for the rest of you, you can skip it.

Greg — you went and spoiled the end by telling us he got assassinated!! Seriously — I found “Bobby” a tad bit earnest.

I thought the movie was a joke. It was basically a political propaganda flick for the Democrats. It also showed that their talking points hadn’t changed in 30 plus years, and they harp on the same crap then that they do now. The only redeeming quality was that it gave a nice perspective of the social climate at the time regarding Vietnam and the anti-war (cowardly) left, as personified by Elijah Wood.

The film didn’t dwell on the who or why of the assassination.
