Has anyone been able to ascertain exactly when Ms. Stronach will be leaving? Some reports say immediately, others, not until an election is called. Not that she has ever been unclear in her position as a member of M Dion’s caucus. After all, I don’t think anyone can figure out any Liberal’s position while there in M. Dion’s caucus.

Given that this is likely related to Magna’s sniffing around the prospect of buying Chrysler, I see her departure coming sooner rather than later, so perhaps her seat will be rolled into the three Quebec by-elections that could come early this fall.

I have seen it characterised in a few outlets as “not standing for re-election” which means she will serve the remainder of her term.
Since directors of a board tend to meet quarterly I don’t think it will interfere with representing her constituents in the next few years.

Belinda didn’t take a job as a director on the board, she took a corporate Vice President job. That’s hardly a once a quarter workload….in the real world…outside of your daddy’s company.

Press Release, Magna International:
Following the announcement earlier today by Belinda Stronach, the current Federal Member of Parliament for Aurora and Newmarket, that she will not be standing for re-election as a Member of Parliament in the next federal election, Ed Lumley, Magna’s Lead Director commented that: “Our Board of Directors welcomes Belinda rejoining the Magna executive management team as Executive Vice-Chairman.
In what world does that job title equal a non-board, line operations title like Vice President?
