Seems I was wrong to rip those Decima polls over the last few weeks. Looks they were ahead of the curve and it brings up James Bow's comment about mainline party support. By now it is clear that about 5% of the populace are having second thoughts about the CPC but what is also clear is they are not moving to the Liberals as a result and the combined Con/Lib total is around 63%. A number that is flirting with historic lows for the two parties combined. Now I realize that in between election polling numbers are not the same as election results and I do believe that a goodly portion of the electorate is parking their vote but it seems a longer trend of people leaving the mainline parties is continuing.

And you still believe in Santa and the tooth fairy.Wake up,the liberal rot is ingrained so much into these pollsters that you could never get a fair question from a pollster unless the poll was for a liberal. How easy is it to bring ou a good poll for the cpc every once in awhile to make them look ligitimate.Have you or any of your freinds ever been phoned by a pollster, ipsos or whatever??Do you know anyone who has ever been called by these pollsters.??Well i havent in 48 year and neither have any of my neighbours or freinds or any of the people at work.Who are these people taking these polls??So dont take polls seriously it is quite obvious they are phony.

Bert, lighten up. Greg Staples always loves playing Monday morning quarterback with these polls. It has been the raison d’etre for a number of his posts on this blog since before the past election. He’s well aware of the limitations of these things, but for him it doesn’t make it any less fun. And, I have to admit, I share his enthusiasm when it comes to the analysis of the maybes of these things, even if it amounts to nothing more than consulting the entrails of a chicken.
If you’re looking for something else, there are other blogs out there.

As far as I’m concerned, you can throw these polls out the window.
What they’ve been saying for the past three years now is that Canadians stand by their election choices, and if somebody wants to screw around with that, well, they better have a good reason for it.
And, when they do, that’s when a ballot question is formed.
That’s politics. That’s democracy. Not these blasted polls I hate so much.
Sorry. Carry on.

Decima has an analysis here. It appears that the Tories are polling at around 30% now.

Nobody’s “leaving” anyone.
It’s spring, the sun is shining, and except for a few political freaks (present company excluded of course),
people just aren’t turning their minds to politics when no election is in site.
All polls right now are meaningless.

The Opposition Parties seem to have learned that if they manage to paint all MPs collectively as incompetent morons, it pains the Governing Party most in the polls. At least, until they are able to get their message through the media as to who is responsible (as if anyone really cared).
The CPC failed to get the message out that the Liberal Bill required about a 30% reduction in GHG emissions by December of this year, and then no change for the next five years. Instead, the media mocked the recession the Liberal Plan would cause.
The CPC failed when the Opposition decided that they could revisit the “Doan” question, simply because Hockey Canada receives federal funds. While millions of recipients of federal funds remain outside federal government review - even outside the authority of the Auditor General.
Here’s hoping the Sens continue to win. A lot of folks are really pretty tired in Ottawa.
