A shot across the bow

This was only a matter of time.

...Mr. Silvestro says there is an opening for Ontario Alternative because the policies of Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty and John Tory, the leader of the Progressive Conservative opposition, are too liberal and virtually indistinguishable from each other.

I'm all for a fiscal conservative option but enshrining English as the official language of Ontario seems like a strange place to pitch ones tent. But if the Ontario Progressive Conservatives and the federal Conservatives continue to chase the middle they run the risk of alienating their right flanks to the point where they are left chasing electoral disaster. It has happened before and it can easily happen again.

Sandy:

No way! John Tory all be a progressive leader is just that. Progressive. In the end it comes down to compromise. It is time to just unite behind whatever leader gets rid of Dalton McGuinty.

Ken:

I thought Ontario was already officially English. This party just says they will end enforced bilingualism, which is great.

Undecided voter:

I agree Ken, Uncle Dalton has been slipping bilingualism in through the back door for some time. For example, he recently opened a health care clinic in eastern Ontario for Francophones only. Also, hes spending millions on adding French to all highways signs, provincial buildings etc.

Sandy:

Clearly this party was set up much like the “Progressive Canadian” Party federally. The only point of this party is to be effective in seeing the defeat of Progressive Conservative candidates across the province. In face, as opposed to being more right wing, the Ontario Alternative party will also be a centrist party looking at targeted seats.

It will be interesting to watch this party as they run candidates in ridings where the John’s Torys are polling just ahead in a desperate attempt to split the vote and let the liberals win.
