Here is another one, this time federally. Lots of good analysis here as well.
Conservatives: 33%
Liberals: 33%
New Democrats: 17%
Bloc Quebecois: 10%
Greens: 8%
...Don't let the neck-and-neck party standings fool you. After a year and a half in office, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has built up some impressive political capital.
Nearly six out of 10 Canadians think the country is on the right track. Even if he's not setting Canadians' hearts aflame, most have a neutral-to-positive impression of Mr. Harper. He's seen as a decisive leader. A majority believe he's kept his promises. And most Canadians trust him to do the right thing for the country.
There's more good news for Mr. Harper. The pool of Liberal voters open to voting Conservative has grown since the last election. In Quebec, meanwhile, Mr. Harper's Conservatives are in solid second place to the Bloc Québécois outside of Montreal. The percentage of Quebeckers who believe the country is on the right track has nearly doubled in two years.

Great news indeed.
This poll also quite explicitly states and indicates that Harper is doing a much better job than expected, that Canadians are generally more satisfied with the state of the country, that the Conservative vote is harder than the Liberal vote, that the Conservatives have more potential to make gains in Quebec outside of Montreal, and that the Conservatives will most likely benifit more from Liberal-NDP vote switchers than vice versa.
Yet uber Liberal washing machines like Cherniak, as usual, are stuck on spin cycle, telling us to ignore the analysis. it is amazing that Liberals such as him STILL see this poll as good news for the Liberals and bad news for the Tories, lol!

THIS is why polls have become meaningless.
On one side, people shout “Look at those horrible numbers! All that work, all summer long and the Tories are at 33%!!! TIED with Dion’s Liberals!!! What a farce! The Tories are three points down, the Liberals are three points up (from the election), and the Tories are trying to spin it as though it’s a SUCCESS!?!?!”.
Meanwhile the other side screams “Don’t look at the NUMBERS!!! Why would you look at the numbers? They’re misleading! Look at the ANALYSIS. Sure the parties are statistically tied, but the anlaysis clearly show that people are happy with their government, and Harper is making great strides.”
Personally, I think it’s funnier to see people trying to spin a 36/30 lead becoming a 33/33 TIE as being good news for the Tories (if a 3 point slip after this past summer is GOOD, one hates to imagine what BAD news would have been!) but regardless of which way one spins, it does go to show how meaningless these things have become.
People who don’t like the numbers will tell you to ignore the numbers, and look at the analysis. People who don’t like the analysis will tell you to ignore the analysis and look at the numbers.
It seems no one can recognize ANYTHING anymore that doesn’t conform to what they already believe.

I have to agree with LKO, this poll is not good news for any of the parties.
