Knives out

You would think that the most recent poll having the Liberals tied with the Conservatives at 33% would be enough to keep the sour grapers in the Liberal party quiet but it seems they smell blood.

...Shouting that Dion is a rigid, hypocritical academic fish floundering in political water is more than a potentially winning Conservative strategy: It's also what a lot of Liberals whisper. Yes, many are still bitter about losing the leadership, but it's also true that once rock-hard Liberal support is now ice cream soft.
Low public esteem, policies as suspect as the organization and a party weighing its election prospects against leadership change are a toxic Liberal mix. They are also a Conservative opportunity.
Shrewd prime ministers seize those moments. Jean Chrétien won consecutive majorities that way and Harper shares that tactical cunning and killer instinct.
A fall election isn't inevitable. But the odds are improving in lock step with the probability that a country reluctant to trust Harper will be forced to confront its doubts about Dion.

When was Liberal support “rock-hard”? Is he talking about the Chrétien days? If so, the change can’t all be attributed to Dion…

The Liberals don’t have a leader worth voting for right now and I suspect their support is largely comprised of those who :

A) Think Afghanistan is a bad war for Canada to be in B) Think the Conservatives are “scary” C) Like immigrant-friendly Liberal policy D) Have always voted Liberal so why bother changing?

But those with common sense understand that this current Liberal party hasn’t got the vision, plan, or leadership to rule the country right now. Say what you will about Chretien, but he was charismatic and politically shrewd. No such Liberal currently exists like that.
