Sure, John Tory got beat up in the media (and in the blogs, like here) last week but if the latest poll from Ipsos Reid is to be believed it isn't hurting him in the polls. According to Ipsos Reid the Liberal lead is shrinking and the Progressive Conservatives are in the lead in the 905 region.
Liberals: 41%
Progressive Conservatives: 36%
New Democrats: 17%
Greens: 6%
...Tory support in the competitive 905 belt surrounding Toronto rose two points from late August, opening up a 44%-40% lead over the Liberals. Suburban ethnic communities, normally a bastion of Liberal support, could be propelling the jump in light of Mr. Tory's faith-based school promise, Mr. Wright said.

I think the numbers indicate that a regional battle is developing in this election? (i.e. Anybody but an Ottawa politician)
Also, I think there is disdain for how the economy has been treated in the 905. Think Millerinty.

If the Ontario PCs are to form government the 905 would be one of (if not the) signal area to watch.
Provincial averages won’t mean as much if the suburban swing occurs.

Whoever takes the 905 takes the election. When it comes to religious school funding, even though its not that generally popular, those who are the supporters live in the 905. In ridings like those in York and Peel it makes all the difference.

In a few ridings like those in York and Peel it makes all the difference. The religious school funding issue may tip the balance in a riding like Thornhill… and that’s it.

I can’t believe how hypocritical people who “say” that they are opposed to religious school funding, but don’t mention Catholic schools. If McGuinty is such a great defender of public secular schools, why are his own kids in Catholic schools, his wife a teacher in a Catholic school, and himself an attendee when he was younger.
The Tories need to exploit this hypocrisy front and centre, and make this an issue of fairness above all else - that you can’t fund only one religion and not others - they haven’t been getting this message out.
