My heart, that is, because talk like this warms my heart.
...Liberal Leader Stephane Dion laid out yesterday some of the key elements that will make up his party's future economic platform, saying it would include tax cuts aimed at spurring the country's competitiveness as well as an attack on the country's innovation and productivity deficit.
He said his party was successful in tackling the fiscal deficit in the 1990s, and that under his direction it would tackle the productivity gap Canada has with the rest of the world, most notably the United States.
There still way too much nonsense about foreign takeovers but productivity is something that needs to be addressed.

Don’t get your hopes too high: I expect a whole bunch of dirigiste winner-picking. At best we might get a bunch of Paul Wells-ian infrastructure spending, when what we really need is the Irish model.

Winner-picking? You mean like the Cons’ research policies, which favour specific institutes and groups (and subject areas!)?

No, Josh, winner-picking, like a $1b+ heavy water plant in Port Hawkesbury and didn’t work and the $2b airport at Mirabel that’s been closed, remember them?

Um, “winner-picking” refers to policies which specifically target particular industries or companies. I don’t see how it applies to Mirabel at all (and it was built 32 years ago!).
