A couple of weeks ago I urged the Conservatives to push hard to bring in their policies. Reading Don Martin's take on the Prime Ministers press conference yesterday it seems that Harper is doing just that.
...An extension of the Afghanistan mission, tough-love justice bills, a deep tax cut and a missing climate change bill are subject to de facto approval on Oct. 16. Should his rivals reject the master blueprint or defeat any one of his priorities, this make-my-day prime minister will deem it a lost vote of confidence.
Obvious translation: Capitulation or election. In the case of white-flag-flapping Liberals, that also means political strangulation.
Now I think Don Martin is a little over-the-top in his description of what it means to the Liberals but if your opponents are on the defensive then keep them there.

I say if he brings forward all of those initiatives in the throne speech he will lose an election anyway, so bring it on. Those chicken shit Liberals may not see it that way though, so Martin may be right.

I say he wins. And I’m not high. You never declared that. So obviously you were when you made that preposterous prediction. ;)

Expanding government by disguising it as “getting tough” and paying for it with devalued currency and future debt obligations sounds like a winner to me.

“deep tax cut”? I’ll believe it when I see it…

This is the first I’ve seen of harper sounding like a conservative. It was refreshing.
I can’t imagine that the Libs or the BQ can possibly want an election at the moment, regardless of the rather doubtful polls, so we are in for one of the more spectacular acts of political collapse we’ve seen in Canada.
Bring it on I say.
