Nik Nanos has already proven himself

to be a first rate pollster and one of the key instruments he has employed to provide accurate polling results in the leadership index. And the latest leadership numbers aren't even close - here are the results of the "best PM". (h/t NationalNewswatch)

Stephen Harper: 37%
Jack Layton: 17%
Stephane Dion: 13%

Sure Stephane Dion has been dealt a poor hand but with numbers that low he is playing his cards pretty poorly. As was the case during the last round of Conservative anti-Dion ads the latest ones are leaving their mark as well. What I am curious about is do these leadership numbers and the 14-point lead (see Ipsos-Reid below) hold as the Liberals try to chip away at Conservative credibility over the Mulroney bidnis.

David A. Giles:

And now there are the suspect numbers from the G&M poll, showing the CPC and Libs in a dead heat at 32%, with the Greens slightly ahead of the NDP 13% to 12%.
