As you can tell from my lack of postings, nothing is really getting me going right now on the political front. The whole Schreiber-Mulroney thing leaves me pretty cold and I just don't feel compelled to pay attention to it.
This, on the other hand, does get me going,
...Karlheinz Schreiber confirmed for the first time Tuesday that foreign interests and money were involved in the campaign to unseat Tory leader Joe Clark at the 1983 Progressive Conservative convention.
Mr. Schreiber told the House of Commons ethics committee that the money he used to help arrange and pay for jets that transported anti-Clark delegates from Quebec to the convention in Winnipeg came from himself, the chairman of Airbus Industrie, the late Franz Josef Strauss, and Mr. Strauss's party, the Christian Social Union.
At that historic convention, Mr. Clark did not receive the support he was looking for in a leadership review, opening the door to a leadership race, which was won by Mr. Mulroney.
“The money came from myself, and from the Strauss family and probably from the [Christian] Social Union,” said Mr. Schreiber, adding the amount he contributed was about $25,000.
This is truly shameful, truly embarrasing.

It’s too bad you haven’t been paying more attention, or maybe that this caught your eye. It has become very clear particularly over the last couple of appearances that KHS is simply throwing out all kinds of accusations with no corroboration or support for any of them. This is a prime example.
KHS has said previously that he gave the Mulroney campaign $25,000 in 1983. He became a Canadian citizen in 1982, so no problem there, and there were no limits on campaign contributions at that time. Today he says some of the money came from Strauss and the CSU. Tomorrow maybe it will be Jimmy Hoffa that gave part of it. Next week it might be the guy on the grassy knoll, or perhaps Mother Theresa. There is no corroboration whatsoever for any of this, except for KHS, and he has shown over and over again that he is more than willing to drag in anyone he can think of. To date, the list of Canadian politicians involved run from Sinclair Stevens, to Marc Lalonde, to Benoit Bouchard to Jean Charest to a lot of other people who are conveniently dead, like Herr Strauss.

KHS is so boring, so last week. There is little or no evidence to corroborate his claims. Until there is hard evidence, it is impossible to give the guy any credence. Nobody is talking about Airbus anymore because there is nothing there. We now have to content ourselves with supposed outrages from 1983! It was Joe Clark’s stupidity that dethroned Joe Clark, not Bavarian money. Give me a break.
Libs made a big mistake dragging KHS in front of the Ethics committee. They should have waited for the public inquiry. That way the suspense would have built up over Xmas, and then real lawyers would question KHS and other witnesses to find out if there is any evidence for any of these claims. Instead, KHS’s (and opposition) credibility has been shot, and no-one will care when the inquiry starts (or even if it never starts).
Like 99.99999% of Canadians, I watched “Deal No Deal” on TV tonight, not Mike Duffy Live’s latest boring updates on KHS.
