a free Canadian,
free to speak without fear,
free to worship God in my own way,
free to stand for what I think right,
free to oppose what I believe wrong,
free to choose those who shall govern my country.
This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold
for myself and for all mankind.
And I will proudly vote this afternoon. As I have done in every election since I was old enough to exercise my right.

free to choose those who shall govern my country.
Not really, but it is nice to dream about the day when that will be true.

That would be more properly phrased “Free to say who should govern my country”. Voting is an individual right, but choice of leaders is not. Otherwise I’d pick me every time. Not that that would be a bad thing…
