If it were up to me I would advise PM Harper to not prorogue and face the music on Monday. Let the opposition parties do as they will and then go the Governor-General and request an election. If she says no then accept defeat and go back to the House and get ready for the election that will be coming a lot sooner than the 18 months that the BQ has agreed to support the Liberal/NDP coalition. I don't think coalition can last anywhere near that long.
Update: Bourque is headling speculation from Lowell Green that "If coalition forms gvt, Tory MPs may resign en masse ...". I seriously doubt that they would do that and it sounds like an angry Tory let their mouth get ahead of their brain.

The next time a Canadian Prime Minister is considering various candidates to fill the Governor General position it is anticipate that he will recall the political situation currently being played out on Parliament Hill.
It is no secret that Prime Minster Martin appointed the contemporary GG strictly on an affirmative action basis thereby expecting immeasurable political gains among women, immigrants, and French voters. Unfortunately the PM didn’t appear to judge it a critical negative that Mrs. Jean had no appropriate education, training and/or noteworthy qualifications pursuant to the position. Equally regretful and reckless, Prime Minister Martin disregarded the rumors of the time associating Mrs. Jean and her leftist husband with the separatists.
Now is definitely not the time for a non-stable government; its time for parliamentarians to return to work and preclude revolving a recession into a depression by mammoth deficit spending.
This left-wing, affirmative action bimbo must ignore her alleged separatist and leftist postures and accept PM Harper’s call for either a prorogation or election should he make a request

Wow machiavelli, what do you really think of the Governor General? Just to let you know, she hasn’t even made a ruling yet. Best to leave the denunciations until later.

Jim Prentice has debunked the 143 by-elections story. Sorry I don’t have the link.
